Show New State Society Organized, Affiliates With National Body There has been organized in Utah a state-wide society for the physically handicapped to be affiliated af-filiated with the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults, which this year Is celebrating its silver anniversary. L. C. Miles of Cedar City has been named director direct-or for five southern counties, and Leland D. Heywood has been named chairman for Iron County. The National Society for crippled Children and adults was formed In 1911 following a tragic accident in which a number of school child ren in the town of Elyria, Ohio, were severely Injured. This accident acci-dent called to the attention of a leading citizen the fact that there were crippled children everywhere for whom much could be done. He organized In Ohio the first society so-ciety for crippled children. His further interests led to the establishment estab-lishment of the National Society. Twenty-five years of steady growth and progress has seen the National Nation-al Society and its services spread to all parts of the nation-It nation-It is the aim of the society to expend all possible funds for direct services to the handicapped. All expenditures are made in accordance accord-ance with budgets approved by the Board of Trustees of the various societies. A single appeal Is made to the public for funds. Each year at Easter a nation-wide sals of Easter Seals ls conducted. The returns re-turns from the Easter sale become the property of the state and local lo-cal societies. They, In order to maintain a nation-wide clearing house and consultation service, send eight cents out of each dollar collected col-lected to the National Society 'which has no direct Income of its own. The remaining 92 cents are kept for local service. This year tne campaign began on March 21st, and will continue until April 21st. Easter Day. One hundred thousand appeal letters will be mailed to Individuals of the state (urlng the campaign. Each letter will contain $1.00 worth of reals and an addressed envelope In which contributions can be mailed. In addition personal solicitations will te made of oil business houses. The campaign is being conducted In Iron County by P. Q. Wllll&ms.
