Show Family Hears From Son In Japaneese Prison Edward A. Nelson of fcouldci City, Nevada, formerly, of C dar City, called In the Record office last week and showed vis a letter recently received from his brother StU- James M. Nelson, who is na.v interned in a Japanese prison camp in the Tokyo area. In the letter, whl(h is dated Scd-tember Scd-tember 10. 1943, S't. Nel-.cn reports he is well and that if his fa:n ly I wishes to send him anything he I would appreciate receiving seme , candy. Sgt. Nelson who is a son of Mr I and Mrs. Nelson of Las Vegas, formerly of St. George, enlisted In the United States Army on May 26, 1941, and landed In Manila on November 29, approximately one week before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He saw action in the Phll-i, Phll-i, pines and was reported missing In action soon after the fall of Cr-rigedor. Cr-rigedor. A year and a half later, his parents Were notified by the American Red Crass that their son had been located in a prison camp in the Tokyo area. Since that time, the family has been able to correspond with him. and twice his name has been un-u-tioned on a short-wave radio broadcast broad-cast from Japan. The first ti.ne was on July 24, 1943, when Mr. and Mis. Nelson received postcards and letters from t.eople all over the country who reported having heard Sgt. Nelson on the broadcast. The second time occurred just recently as Is indicated by a telegram received re-ceived from the Provost Marshall in Washington, D. C. under datf of March 18. The telegram read as follows: ''A short wave broadcast from Japan has been intercepted from Eugene E. Meek. No. 2 camp Kawasaki, Kaw-asaki, Tokyo Area. He stated that Sgt J. M. Nelson was in good health and had received four riYeply ap-pleclatd ap-pleclatd Ic'.teis. Tli's broadcast supplements previous official report re-port received from International Red Cross." Sgt. Nelson has two brothers In Ennland, snd Raymond, who Isj serving with the Navy In the Pacific. |
