Show Dixie Forest Cattle jF Users Meet in Cedar I The annual meeting of the Dixie j National Forest Cattle and Hor.-e j graziers Advisory Board Committee was held at Cedar City, Saturday, j March 28. The committee, com- J peved of representatives of 17 stork- J mens' associations whose stock use r the Dixie ranges, discussed problems j of the range for 1942. j Included among the speakers I were representatives from the U. S J Crazing Service, Branch Aricul- tural College, the Agricultural ex- tension Service, State Board of Ag- I riculture, the Enterprise, Panguiteh, R St. George and Cedar City Wildlife Federations, and Supervisors of the Dixie and FLshlake National For- I ests. I The big game problem as it lates to deer on congested areas of I the Dixie game preserve came in jj for considrable review. Furtlu"- i measures of control of deer will be E necessary before any great improve- j ment in the condition of the range j can be expected. The probability j of fewer hunters this year with j many young men going into the army, and the fact that economies in transportation made necesary through the saving of rubber will offer some obstacles to the pub'.ie hunt this year being as large as in prior years, with a consequence of a smaller number of surplus deer likely to be removed. The hunt contributes con-tributes abundant meat for food, and the removal of surplus deer by a well managed hunt can aid tlv "Food for Freedom" program. Forest oficials reviewed the progress pro-gress that has been made In range and game management, and pointed point-ed out the advantages that came through range reseeding and the establishment of range watering facilities fa-cilities and fences. The production of better livestock was stressed. The present big demand for beef offers an opportunity for culling and the improvement of herds by the substitution sub-stitution of better beef producing animals. The committee unanimously agreed upon a plan of cooperation with all public agencies In the promotion pro-motion of the war effort. Albert Albertson, newly appointed Supervisor to the Dixie National Forest, discussed the similarity of range conditions with those on tho Flshlake forest. ' The committee adopted a resolution resolu-tion of appreciation for the service of Blaine Betenson, recently appointed ap-pointed Supervisor of the Flshlake National Forest In a change of positions po-sitions between these National Forests. |
