HunJredt of ATiation Cadet are earning their wingi as pilott, naTigator or bombanlieri and commissions at sreond lieutenants in th Southeast Air Corps Training Center. After being "processed" at the Cadet Replacement Center, Maxwell Field, Ala., and having learned to fly at one of the Primary schools, they are sent ' to one of the Basic schools !n the Training Center. (1) A cadet loolts over a basic training plane for the first time as his instructor-lieutenant explains the operation of the ship to him. (2) Up for his first flight, the cadet finds his basic ship much faster and more maneuverable than the smaller, simpler, planes he learned to fly at primary school. (3) Ready for his first basic solo, this cadet climbs Into Lis ship to take it up alone. (4) Further along la their training cadats take up cross- country flying for the first time. Here, with map unfolded on 1 the wing of a ship, an instructor gives hast minute instruction I to two cadets just before they take off on a cross-country hop. I (5) Most exciting part of a cadet's training at a Basic I sihool is night flying, none of which he has had previous to this stage of his training. Here cadets, silhouetted against a moonlit I sky, walk to their ships on the flying line for a routine night flight. I (6) Down from a formation flight, these cadets listen ta i their instructor at he explains certain technicalities of the flight, I using his hands to demonstrate his point. Formation flying is 1 also another "first" which cadets take up in Basic school. (Inset) Three cadets, typical of thousands now winning their wings for Uncle Sam, pause between flights to read their orders of the day.
