Show Jaycee Conference Football Competition Abandoned For 1946 As the result of the action of Weber College in withdrawing from Jaycee football competition because the other schools are not "large enough" to furnish "worthy com-pctiton", com-pctiton", there will be no Inter-mountain Inter-mountain Junior College Conference Confer-ence football schedule this fall. Struggling de perately to gain recognition re-cognition in the northern part of tne state, the Ogden school has announced an-nounced that it will not compete longer with the state Jaycee teams but will seek stronger competition. Jurt what the Wildcats will do ugainst "stronger" competition, and how It will increase their popularity Is a mystery, since a study of past records ;hows that Weber has been only moderately successful in atu-letic atu-letic competition with the "weaker"' Junior Colleges, and ths Wlldtats have won very few championships in the past. The Wsbcr official', wish to withdraw with-draw only from the football league, and in order to give the school a chance to try out its program of expansion the Conference has voted to abandon conference football for the coming year. However, Weber will be requested to return to its regular position in the football league or withdraw from the conference con-ference entirely. Ths fact that conference play has been abandoned does not mean that football will not be played in the other :hools. Ths Branch Agricultural College team will play a full schedule on a free lance basis, perhaps even meeting Weber since the Broncos ars considered strong enough to be Included on the Wildcat schedule. The Broncos will meet all other conference teams, and will also play a game with Compton College of California. In addition two others games are to be added to the Bronco schedule, probably both with Pacific Coast teams. |
