Show SHALL WE BUY AN ELEGTMC FIAN1? There are on the market a number of Btnall generating plants, and amemg them the "Koler" which U being shown here. The represctatlve of this plant state that the cost of said plant delivered at Cedar City is approxlmatly...-......,..?645.00. Wo must not Jeopardise our insurance by having large quaa- y titles of gas closo to the building and in improper retainers, and' if wo aro going to use gasoline in quantites we will have to fix up to put it in large quantity packages, and to use it with proper equipment to avoid waste and risk. This will necessitate additional cost in connection with tho installation. If we Install the Engine at a distance from whero . wo uso the lights wo hayo tho expense of wiring that distance, and if we have tho Engine too close to whero we use .the lights, wo will have to extend tho cxhnust lino from the engine to a-void a-void tho noise, gas and hcat , Tho Engine should be properly housed and set on a good, foundation foun-dation to eliminate all vibration possiblo for this equipment is provided with more than the usual delicately adjusted pieces of mechanism. If theso parts are neglected wc must anticipate trouble with thorn much aooncr than otherwise The building should be neither too cold or. too hot, should bo as free from moisture and dust as possible. This machine is equped with D, C. generator which demands de-mands tho proper care and attention to give It a prolonged life. It seems hardly likely that one,' could procure such housing, tanks and equipment, together with the materials necessary for gas and electrical connections for less than a total, including labor la-bor and materials, of. .....-..-.. -...$150.00 In order to have a stock of oils and gases on hand we will have to anticipate an investment of approximately. - 930.00 Making a total investment of Eight Hundred Twcnty-fivo Dollars - - $825.00 It looks like wc must either invest this amoust for the complete com-plete installation or shorten tho life of our cqnipmc,nt thereby increasing the cost of up-kecp, out-put, and depreciation. The representative informs us that Three Hundred Engineers estimates the life of the engino to bo 15 years. That of itself is a long gamble on a gas Engine, the mapufac-urers mapufac-urers guaranteeing agahist defective material and workmanship workman-ship for ono year, leaving the investor to take his chances for tho other 14 years. To arrive at the cost of producing Kilowatt Hours we have first aninvestment of $825.00 which we can place with good security se-curity and no risk at 8 per cent interest which would net us per month - - w. $5.50. If our equipment lasts Fifteen years we have an approximate depreciation of Seven per cent which amounts to per month 4.67. We will have to have new brushes for the generator after while; the commutor will have to be turned down, the valves of the engine have to be ground occasionally, stew piston rings have to be put in and bearings fixed up, so that we can not ligitimate-ly ligitimate-ly expect this machine to be kept up as well as the other equipment equip-ment for less than 5 per cent of the investment which will be another expense item per month of. .......,.......................$ 3.33 . v We will assume that vou will bej taxed on k 3'er cnt busi!' and this will amount to another monthly item of. .......2.06 It does not matter how perfect a machine may be, it demands some care, and if not attended to there will be more of a loss than the labor charge for the care of it amounts to. It may not be wise, but we will put this at the low figure per month of....$1.00 Summing up this wo have a monthly expenditure of Sixteen dollars and Fifty Six cqnts, with out cither gnsolinc or oil, which must bo met monthly $16.56 Wc do not Know definitely the cost of the gas and oil but taking tak-ing the manufacturers statement that the machine will run 8 hours on 7 pints of gasoline, and they sny nothing about oil consumption, and that the machine will have n,n output of 1500 , watta per hour, wc assume 'from calculating tho above that including in-cluding tho oil the cost would bo three cents per Kilowatt hour. That being tho caso your lights will cost you as follows: or rather this will be your lighting schedule. Minimum charge $16.56 plus tho Kilowatt Hours used each month nt 3 cents per K. W. Hr. Dixie Power Co. New schedule as provided by the Public Utilities Commission of Utah, designated as schedule "B" Avhich goes into effect immediately after the reading of the Meters the First of February is as follows. 14 cents per K. Dixie Power Co docs not require a large investment. They do not require you to use their power for fifteen yeant in order to get it at the price.
