Show MILTON MAKES II PAY. (Milton Eagle.) The cold tj)?U which struck this section recently has been one of the strongest arguments- for an auxiliary power plant for tho Milton light ana power systems that tho advocates of tho new plant could desire. The below be-low zero weather that prevailed for a night or two soon put tho -city's power plant out of commission with tho result that the schools relying upon electric heat were closed. All local industries using electric power were forced to suspend operations, and tooso individuals usiny electric heat were put to great inconvenience. Not only is this a great expense and inconvenience to the local plants using us-ing electric power, but one of the chief considerations is the Joss of the time suffered by tho schools. In this connection it is interesting to take notice of one of the arguments argu-ments of those advocating the installation instal-lation of the auxiliary plant, and that is that enough new business could be handled thereby to make unnecessary the levying of any additional tax burden bur-den upon the people. The present plant is badly overloaded and the city ia constantly refusing new business... Even at4hat,accordinjf-'to' a. statement state-ment by City Maaair Coyle, the gross earnings 'of the city light and power plant for 1921 was 126,142.03. Against this there were expenditures for labor and upkeep of $7,496.69; for new equipment such as meters, transformers, trans-formers, poles, wire, etc., $4,313.16; interest on bonds and warrants,100; making a gross expenditure of $13,-909.85 $13,-909.85 which deducted from tho, gross receipts of $26,142,03 leaves a net profit for tho city from tho light and-power and-power plant of $12,232.18. According to these figures the power plant has been a money maker for tho city for many years. Tho town of Milton is no lurger than Cedar City; the people do not use more electric energy than does the people of Milton. This being suppose that if Cedar had an clec-the clec-the people of Milton. Tins being trie light arnd power plant of her own that it could be made to pay, just as Milton has been able to make its plant pa? |
