Show MILK FEVER. One of our locnl veterinarians says .when a cow gets down with milk fever sho has internal hcrmorrhagc of tho bowels and says that must be removed before you can get relief. Tho other veterinarian says reaching into tho rectum is the cause of the hemorrhage nnd says there is no need of cleaning out the bowel. Which !h right? Please give treatment for milk feycr. Aurora Ore. E. S. Y. Tho exact cauBo of milk fever is unknown, but tho probabilities are that it is either duo to toxins (poisons) (poi-sons) formed by germ nctivity in tho uddei, or bloodlessness (anemia) of tho brain, from congestion of blood in tho udder. Wo believe the best mentioned cause to be tho correct one. There is no hemorrhage (bleeding) (bleed-ing) of the bowels nor is it necessary to "rake out" the rectum with tho hand. Correct treutment consists in inflating each quarter of the udder in turn with air pumped in by means of a special, Bteriiized inflating apparatus. appa-ratus. It is also usual for the vet-crinarias vet-crinarias to give hypodermic treatment treat-ment with atropln or strychnin and to cover tho cow with blankets to help raiao her temperature. Fever U not present, but on the contrary the temperature is usually below normal. Roger W. Babson, Wellealey Hills, Mass.: "Thrift produces prosperity. To develop individual thrift is a pressing press-ing national problem. Thriftleseness, the American characteristic, is due to u lack of 'know how.' Almost any man who tries to run his business in tho way he finances hia home without with-out a definite plan would tad in bankruptcy." |
