Show No .11 ore Coloring l'lpei. Coloring meerschaums has gono out of fashion. Years ago it was qulto a fad, but so much troublo was required to keep a meerschaum In good condition condi-tion that most smokers discarded tholr pipes and took to cigars. A meerschaum, meer-schaum, to bo properly colored, needs as much nttcntion as a baby. It must not got too hot, for then tho wax coating coat-ing is driven out and tho plpodoes not take a proper color; it must not got too cold nor cool off too suddenly, or it will crack; you must not touch It with your fingers, nor smoko it loo steadily, stead-ily, nor keep a cover on It while using it, for in either case It is spoiled. Men, as a rulo, do not smoko for tho pleasure pleas-ure of coloring a pipe but for the comfort com-fort thoy get from tho habit, and so tho meerschaum has given way. |
