Show THE FARM DEVELOPER No cause has contributed so directly to the development of the small farm, with its resulting prosperity to tho farmers, than has the canning industry. in-dustry. A few years ago, in the height of the season, it was practically impossible im-possible for farmers to dispose of their vegetable, berry and fruit crops at any kind of a figure. These crops were simply a drug on tho market, as they could not be consumed in their fresh form as rapidly as produced. The growth of the canning industry, with its advertising campaigns, introducing in-troducing canned fruits and vegetables vegeta-bles in all parts of the world, has changed all this, and today, under ordinary or-dinary conditions, the local cannery can consume practically all vegetables and fruits in tho busiest season of the year and pay the farmers a price which enables them tp develop farms nnd,.mnke a good living from smnll tracts of land. In our scheme of farm development, let us not overlook the canneries and vogetnblo and fruit packing plants. e |
