A. in this city since 1S93, and member mem-ber of the legislature which elected Senator Kearns, has been recommended for appointment as chaplain in the army. When it was suggested some time ago that he fit himself for the chaplaincy, Mr. Axton consulted several sev-eral ministers and received their assurance as-surance that it would be the proper thing for him to do. , Accordingly. Senator Kearns gave another dinner at Washington Wash-ington last night, complimentary to i Secretary Moody and Senator Clark. The banquet hall was magnificently decorated. Secretary Moody occupied the seat of honor at Senator Kearns' right,' while Senator Clark was on his left. Speeches were made during the evening even-ing by Secretary Moody, Assistant Sec-retai-y Hill, Senators Dolliver, Mc-Cpmas, Mc-Cpmas, Burrows, Blackburn, Nelson and Representatives Dalzell and Mc-Andrews. He says he has a man in the Thunder mountain moun-tain region, and predicts that if Thunder Thun-der mountain d6es not prve to be the camp it is cracked up to be many other oth-er camps will be opened that will fulfill the expectations of the multitude. . A jolly crowd of mining men from the east, en route to Nevada mining camps, spent one day this week in Salt Lake as guests of W. P. O'Meara and C. O. Whittemore. In the morning a recital was given for them at the tabernacle tab-ernacle and the afternoon was spent at Saltair. They occupied two stalls at the Theatre in the evening, and were warm in their praise of the performance perform-ance by the local company. The party was made up of Charles R. Miller, W.
