Show G. A. R. Excursion. Between 1..VJ0 and ".'.OOu veterans, young and old, were at Lagoon Tuesday Tues-day with the women of the Relief Corps and the Ladies of the G. A. R. There were hundreds of children and babies, too. grandchildren and greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren of the men who saved the t'nion from dissolution during the war of the states. For a time Tuesday it seemed as though the veterans were again doomed to disappointment, for there were great, black clouds which opened now and then and sent down a sputter of rain. Twice the old soldiers attempted at-tempted to hold outings. The first was on June 14. Flag day. when the weather weath-er was wretched. On that occasion there was a celebration in spite of the weather, but most of those who cele brated brought their overcoats. Then the veterans decided to try it again on Aug. 6. and so announced their purpose. pur-pose. But along came the circus and another postponement had to be made. Seven organizations from Salt Lake City participated in the outing at Lagoon. La-goon. They were: James B. McKean and George R. Maxwell posts. G. A. R.: E. A. Wedgwood camp, Spanish War Veterans: P. E. Connor camp. Sons of Veterans; the two corps of the Woman's Relief Corps, auxiliary to the G. A. R. posts, and the Ladies of the G. A. R. In addition to these, there were aboui -"ii) comrades and their families and friend? from Ogden. They came on a special irain over the Oregon Short Line. which was switched onto the Lagoon road's tracks at the junction. . m . |
