Show ORANGEMEN DISINTEGRATING. One of the most hopeful signs of the times in the north of Ireland is the disintegration of the Orangemen. The demonstrations in Belfast and other towns in the north this year were smaller than ever before and especially significant wa3 the strength shown by the independent Orange orders. This organization, which is an off-shoot from the parent order, is as aggressively Protestant as. its parent, but" it is as aggressively Irish as the old order is English. The .independent order on July 12 passed resolutions declaring that castle government govern-ment was an anachronism and was expensive and useless to Ireland. The independents are not quite prepared yet to call themselves Home Rulers, but they are well on the way. |
