Show EUREKA. Mrs. Jere Driscoll entertained the membrs of the Reading club last Wednesday afternoon and evening. The time was' very enjoyably spent. Refreshments were served. M. R. F. Sullivan was called to Salt Lake Tuesday by the serious illness of his brother, John W. Sullivan, who is at the Holy Cross hospital suffering from typhoid fever. The young man ij somewhat-better, at this time. . Mrs. Dennis Sullivan and children are visiting friends at Salt Lake. ( Mrs. Anna B. Carpentier died at her ! home here last Saturday morning at the age of 72 years. The lady had been 'quite ill for some time and dropsy ! together with old age resulted in her j death. The deceased has been a resi- . dent of Eureka for the past nine years , and leaves two sons. Nick Carpentier cf this place and Chris Carpentier who lives at Spokane. Wash. Another son ' served In the Philippine islands with i the Michigan troops and died en route ' home. A short time ago A. J. McPhee ; assisted Mrs. Carpentier in making out 1 the necessary papers in application j for a government pension. The lady has been a county charge for some time and it is quite likely that the pension ! would have been granted had she lived ' a few months longer. Notwithstanding ; her indigent condition Mrs. Carpen- j tier left a sum of money sufficient to ; cover funeral expenses. This money, j $168, was found in a trunk in her room and no doubt represented the savings : of many years. The funeral services were eonelueted from the Catholic church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. ather O'Donahue and were ! attended by a large number of friends, j The pall bearers were J. P. Driscoll. P. I J. Fennell James D. Stack. A. J. Mi- j Phee, Henry Bannon and D. C. Har- j rington. The interment took place in ! the city cemetery under the direction j of Undertaker Wallace. J |
