Show A GENEROUS DONATION. The following letter has been received re-ceived by -Mr. John Redmond, chairman chair-man of the Irish party, from Mr. Edward Ed-ward Blake, inclosing a check for $300 in advance of issue of appeal for this year: 467 Jarvis street, Toronto. December 22, 1904. My Dear Mr. Redmond: I received the other day your summons sum-mons to the party meeting, which took place on the lth. and am very sorry that my "visit home has prevented my attendance. I heartiiy concur in the view that the dreadful distress in the west, and the complete failure of the land act to work in those parts where its operation opera-tion is most essential, demand our earnest consideration now, and our most active exertions during the approaching ap-proaching session. Now especially it seems essential that Ireland should be served there by a devoted and pledge-bound pledge-bound party. To that end the parliamentary parlia-mentary fund should be generally and liberally sustained. The subsriptions from this side of the Atlantic are providing pro-viding us with an election fund, and the maintenance of the Irish force in parliament should be the care of the Irish at home. In view of jour recent appeal here, I thought it well to give my yearly subscription through the: Toronto branch of the United Irish league. But in the present emergency I would like to repeat it, and accordingly accord-ingly I inclose a further check for the fund, which. I suppose, will be shortly opened in Ireland. With every wish for the cause and for yourself, Believe me, yours faithfully, faith-fully, EDWARD BLAKE. |
