Show BUTTE, MONT. Emmet David Dillon, the fifteen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Dillon. 541 West Broadway, died Sunday of spinal meningitis. He leaves five sisters. sis-ters. Mrs. Arthur'Jordan. Mrs. John F. Cullerton, Mrs. Will Green of Lewis-ton. Lewis-ton. Idaho, Miss Winnifred and Miss Elizabeth, and two brothers. Richard and Holland. He was a nephew of Mrs. D. F. Reinhard. Mrs. D. A. Dickson Dick-son and Mrs. Patrick Mullins of North Yakima, Wash. He was a student at St. Patrick's school and was greatly liked by his teachers and schoolmates for his brightness, kind and generous disposition. disposi-tion. Morris Hurley, aged fifty years, residing re-siding at 119 West Broadway, died Monday of consumption, after an illness ill-ness of several months' duration. Mr. Hurley was a native of Ireland, but had been a resident of Butte for the past fourteen years. He had many friends in this city and enjoyed their highest respect. He leaves a widow and one daughter. Sunday evening's services at St. Patrick's Pat-rick's church brought to a close the four weeks' mission conducted there by Fathers Dougherty, Drutnm and Rohlmnn and which was one of the most successful ever held in this part of the country. During the course of the mission, thousands of persons assembled as-sembled at St. Patrick's church to hear the lectures and sermons axid participate partici-pate in the services. Interest . in the work never flagged and it was certain that bad it been decided to continue the mission it would have been attended attend-ed by as many people as gathered to attend it during its career. The first week was for the women of the parish. The second week was for the men. the third week for non-Catholics and the fourth week for those unable un-able to attend the preceding weeks. The missionaries who- had charge of the- services are delighted with their success. Father Dougherty stated last evening that the audiences, interest and spirit manifested all during the mission were highly gratifying. "We were greatly pleased with the week of the mission which was devoted to lectures for non-Catholics," continued contin-ued Father Dougherty, in speaking of the mission and its results. "The attendance at-tendance was very large and the interest in-terest displayed by the non-Catholics present was really inspiring. The questions submitted without exception manifested the spirit of fairness existing. exist-ing. Not a single question bore th-2 least taint of malice. The purpose of the lectures that were given that week was purely educational and the sermons ser-mons were received in the spirit in which they were delivered. We shall always think of Butte as one of the country's greatest cities. The city is worthy of its renown. Rev. Father DeSiere, pastor of St. Patrick's church, expressed himself 'as greatly pleased with the mission. He said it was the most successful ever held In the parish. Fathers Drumm and Rohlman beg?.n a three week's mission at St. Paul's church in Anaconda Sunday. They were joined Tuesday by Father Dougherty, who will lend powerful aid in conducting the mission there. The services at St. Patricks church Sunday evening were brought to a close with the administering of the papal pa-pal blessing and the benediction of the blessed sacrament. The closing sermon of the mission was delivered by Father Dougherty, who spoke on "The Mercy of God." He stated in beginning that in his sermon ! he would devote his entire attention to the mercy of God. having already spoken of the Justice of God and ' God's wrath, due to the sins of man- kind. "We have traced the divine justice to the bitter end. of the sinner's career," ' said Father Dougherty, "because we ' recognize-that fear often drives men , to the practice of virtue where love would be powerless to lead." Father Dougherty in detail explained explain-ed the doctrine of the church in regard to the mercy of God. "Thy mercy. O Lord, is above all thy works. There is nothing in ns that can resist the love of God." continued con-tinued Father Dougherty. "There is no time in- this life when a man need despair. If only he will come to God with repentance for the past and determination de-termination for good in the future he will find pardon and peace." |
