Show The Marriage Regulations. : The encyclical -of Pope Pius X con cerning the sacrament of matrimony and the new .regulations governing the same have been officially received in the diocese of Denver and, by order of X. C. Matz, is now being explained tn the faithful. In many of the parishes par-ishes of. the diocese the reading of the pronunciaments was begun last Sunday, Sun-day, and will continue on two successive success-ive Sundays, each feature of it being explained in detail. The doctrines were extensively discussed in- this country last fall. The Intermountain Catholic laking occasion at that time to pxplain some disputed features. It, however, was not formally presented to the people peo-ple from the pulpits of the various i churches until last Sunday. Following is a summary of the salient features of the new law: ; . Marriage of Catholics by civil magis trates after Easter will be null and void. i Engagements to be binding must be written and signed in presence of two or more witnesses. , Private betrothals between Catholics after Easter beget no matrimonial obligation ob-ligation in eyes of church. Fallen-away Catholics, whether they' become Protestants or infidels, bound j by these laws. Bishops, after assuming office, can only marry in own -diocese. Priests, after assuming office, can many only in own parish. Marriages invalid unless consent of both parties is asked and received by a witness of the ceremony. , Marriages are invalid unless there be 1 two witnesses besides the priest or bishop. Marriage should take place in parish of bride, except for reason, f Marriages entered into in case of 1 danger of death can be witnessed by any priest and two other persons. In absence of priest for more than month Catholics can marry under civil law in presence of two witnesses. |
