Show ARCHBISHOP EIORDAN COKING. Most Rev. P. TV. Riordan, Archbishop of San Francisco, and Metropolitan of the province of which the diocese of Salt Lake is a part, will reach this city, next week. He comes by special invitation in-vitation of Bishop Scanlan, who asked his Grace to preach on . the occasion of the laying of the cornerstone of the new Cathedral. The invitation committee com-mittee have been exerting themselves to make suitable and convenient arrangements ar-rangements for all who intend to be present, so that they may see what takes place, and be in a position to "ear the words of Archbishop Riordan, who Is one of the ablest pulpit orators in America. Bishop Scanlan. who is more than Pleased with the liberal spirit manifest ed towards him in his great work, would be glad to see, not only Salt Lake, but all Utah represented on that occasion. When a diocese Is formed only one Cathedral can be built, whilst there may be numberless ' other churches, and as the cornerstone of the future Cathedral will be the first and last to be laid in the diocese of Salt Lake, it is natural that it would be an occasion of great joy for the whole diocese, dio-cese, and that all should extend a helping hand to the completion of the good work. |
