Show WALSENBTJRG. - The Bell Dedicated. On last Sunday week occurred the blessing of the bells at the new Catholic Catho-lic church. This was the fourth Sunday Sun-day since the opening of the new church, and witnessed one of the grandest celebrations since the founding found-ing of the town. The church is one of the finest, if not the finest, in the state. Faither Person! of Trinidid was moster of ceremonies, assisted by Father Fath-er Pitaval of Aspen and Father Uzzell of thi3 place. Father Uzzell began the j erection of this ' church about eight years ago, but when the panic struck the country he was unable to proceed at that time. But last fall another effort ef-fort was made, and he has more than succeeded, and has built a structure that he can be proud of. He was assisted, as-sisted, not only by Catholics, but by Jews and Protestants as well. The windows pat adorn the church are all of stained glass fourteen in number three of which are imported from Munich, Bavaria. The principal window of all is back of the altar and was donated by Leonides Valdez at a cost of $1,500. In fact, the windows were all donated, and have the name of the donor inscribed upon them. The community can be more than proud of this building, and Father Uzzell Uz-zell can congratulate himself on the success of his undertaking. While he Fpent many a sleepless night during this long time, not knowing where to commence again, the help from above never forsook him. and at last the end was reached. The congregation of this parish is a great mixture," consisting mostly of Mexicans, with Slavs, Italians, Ital-ians, Irish, Germans, French, Belgian and Americans. There were at least 900 people in the church last Sunday. The collection was $40.20, and the sponsors spon-sors of the bells gave $276, a total of $316.20. |
