Show REGARDING HOLY COMMUNION. A decree important to , the entire Catholic world, dated at Rome, December 7, 190G, has just been received in this country and for the first time in the history of the church the law making fast obligatory on all before receiving Holy Communion is modified so that the sick and infirm are permitted permit-ted to take nourishing drinks before- receiving the sacrament of Holy Eucharist. . ; . . The decree sets forth that the sick and infirm j who have taken to bed for a month .and who give ! no ceratiu hope of speedy convalescence are permitted per-mitted with the advice of their confessor to receive i the Holy Eucharist even after having broken "the fast by use of drink or. liquid nourishment as fol-I fol-I lows: ' i : First Those dwelling in religious houses where I the Blessed Sacrament is kept, or in houses Which I possess a domestic oratory in which the celebration j of mass is permitted, may receive the Holy Eucharist Eucha-rist once or twice in .Ihe week. . Second All others may receive Holy Eucharist once or twice in the month. . Pope Rius X. has changed the law after long deliberation, and it will be observed that those sick or infirm who partake of solid food deprive themselves them-selves as heretofore of the right to receive the Holv Eucharist.
