T SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION IT TO DELAY WAR PRODUCTION Men Between 20 and 45 Years Old Who Have Not Previously Registered In Draft Of Nation's Manpower Must Do So Not Later Than Feb. 16. Pointing out that this and other inventories of America's manpower will be required "to insure victory, final and complete, over the enemies ene-mies of the United States," Presided oosevelt has proclaimed February Feb-ruary 16, 1942, as the date when all unregistered men between 20 and 45 years old must enroll for possible military service. Th;s February 16th registration is to be conducted solely for those men who are liable for service in i;ke nation's armed forces. Subsequent Subse-quent regis! ration dates will be proclaimed for the resolution of all men between IS and 65 year:-, old, other than tho:'e liable for military mili-tary service in the age bracket of 20 to 45 years. Franklin county's draft board has completed arrangements for the registration of an estimated 650 men. Required to register are all men not previously registered who attained at-tained their 20th birthday on or before December SI, 1911. or who have not attained their 45th birthday birth-day on or before February 1G, 1942; that, is those men born between February 17, 1S97, and December 31, 1921, Appointed chief registrars in the county areas are the following: Clifton, Quince Rice; Dayton, Ivan C. Waddoups; Weston, Thomas Thom-as Preston; Franklin, Earl Cole; Mink Creek, George Glade; Oneida, Glen Sawyer; Preston, Glendale, Egypt, Treasureton, Riverdale, Ba-nida, Ba-nida, Winder, Mapleton, Whitney, and Fairview, H. Nowlin Halo. Registration Tor the Preston area will be held at the County Court House. The other plaices of registration regis-tration will be announced later. Emphasizing the importance of avoiding any interference with war production in connection, with the registration, National Headquarters Selective Service System, has announced an-nounced that wide latitude is allowed allow-ed the director of each state and territory to 'conduct the registration registra-tion in his individual area in conformity con-formity with local conditions. Registration Reg-istration may be started several clays before February 16, if it is found advantageous to do so, and as many registration places as are deemed necessary may be operated by each local board. Outlining the procedure to be followed, Iirig. Gen. Lewis B. Her-shey,. Her-shey,. director of Selective Service, said.- "The registration will be accomplished accom-plished by the existing Selective Service machinery with the assistance assist-ance of patriotic volunteers in each community. The members or the local boards together with other officials of the Selective Service and employees, under the direction of the director in each state, are ready and able, to perform this (ask. These persons are thoroughly thorough-ly familiar witli the problems of registration and can solve them quickly. "There are many patrtlotlc men and women in tile United States who will welcome the opportunity to volunteer their services to assist as-sist the local boards and the use of these volunteers will relieve the government of unnecessary posts." r |
