Verne McKinney, publisher publish-er of the Hillsboro, Ore., Argus, winner of the 1940 award for the best weekly paper in the Uimed States. E. B. Aldrich, publisher of the East Oregonian, Pendleton, will discuss daily newspaper publishing. Ray Andrews, of Botsford, Con-stantine Con-stantine and Gardiner, Portland. Ore., the agency which handles the Oregon tourist advertising, will also appear on the program. Details of the program were recently re-cently worked out in a committee session held at Boise under the chairmanship of Bernard Mainwar-ing, Mainwar-ing, the Nampa Free Press publisher, publish-er, program chairman. The convention will, open at 9:30 'a. m. Friday, January 17, at the Hotel Boise. Frank G. Burroughs will be in charge of the registration registra-tion desk. ' secretary, will precede a talk on the comparison of journalism teaching methods at the University of Idaho and the University of Missouri Mis-souri by Wm. F. Swindler, Missouri graduate, who this year is in chargej of the department at Idaho. Informal lunch will be held at noon. The afternoon session will be devoted de-voted tot the State advertising program, pro-gram, with Win Cline presenting the case for such a program in Tdaho. The Oregon speakers will discuss various phases of their state's system, sys-tem, in a panel discussion, and Governor Clark has been invited to present his views. The session will be open to anyone who cares to attend and hear the discussion. Friday evening, the traditional gridiron banquet will be held at the Boise, under the sponsorship of the Boise Ad club Frank Burroughs Bur-roughs the chairman.. Two masters of ceremony, one at each end of the table will "pour it. on" without i ointment. Edw. G. Rosenheim. Boise attorney, and Joe Imhoff, advertising ad-vertising agent, will be the masters mas-ters of ceremony. Saturday morning, an executive session, for publishers only, will read and discuss a letter from retiring re-tiring governor, C. A. Bottolfsen. Following this session, the weekly and daily publishers will divide into in-to respective groups. Mr. McKinney McKin-ney addressing the weekly publishers, publish-ers, and Mr. Aldrich the dailies. Wm, S. Cady, co-publisher of the Pocatello Tribune-Journal will preside pre-side over the daily session group. Informal lunch will be ne.-!i nt noon Saturday, many of the publishers pub-lishers will take this opportunity to contact the legislators from their home county to discuss the legislative program which will then be before the state. Election of new officers and reports of committees com-mittees will conclude the session Saturday afternoon. |
