Show State Officials Sworn In; Clark Asks Economy GOVERNOR CANCELS SEVERAL POSITIONS County Officers To Be Sworn In Monday, January 13 BOISE, Ida. Idaho's new and re-elected officials for the next two years were inaugurated into respective offices here Monday at a joint session of the two legislative legisla-tive houses. Chase A. Clark of Idaho Falls bo. came Idaho's cighV '.e-r.'.l -governor as the state's twenty-sixth administration admin-istration . took over the reigns of, government. Other elective officials who took the oath of office werej Lieutenant Governor Charles C. Gossett; Secretary Sec-retary of State George Curtis ; State Auditor Calvin W. Wright; Stale Treasurer Myrtle P. Enking; Attorney Ueneral Bert Miller; State School Supt. C. E. Roberts; Slate Mine Inspector Arthur Campbell. County officers will take their oath of office and be sworn in by County Auditor Cleo Swenson next Monday morning, January 13, at the county commissioners'1 office in the court house. Only-two of the officials will be unfamiliar with the proceed-ure, proceed-ure, Lee Hanson taking over the duties as Sheriff for his. first time, 'and J. P. Rasmussen incoming Probate Judge. Frank Shrives who will be sworn in as County Commissioner to complete the list of changes has served in that capacity before. All other officers were reelected to another term. Most of the day was spent in receptions and by the legislature in organizing for the current hcr-sion. hcr-sion. F. M. Bistline, Democrat, was elected speaker of the house and Perry Mitchell of Nez Perce, Democrat, president pro tern of the senate. In his initial message to the feghdature on Tuesday, Governor Clark requested the-elimination of special state boards and commissions commis-sions and,1 the abolition of the state real and personal property tax. Ho asked a new form of revenue to replace the real and personal property prop-erty tax. He also appealed for necessary legislation for appropriations appropria-tions to match federal funds to the maximum amount that is offered. lie appealed for the elimination of all special hoards and commissions commis-sions wilh the exception ot tho fish and game :ommission and' the imlufrin accident board, and that their functions be. returned to . "eh-cled officials of the people." One of the new govenor's first (executive acts was to cancel all p'-rmi's to use state cars for anything any-thing except official business, and he a(hh-d that a "gr-at many slate owned cars would lie called out of service." "The elimination of all extravagance extrav-agance in governmental expense" will be the keynote of the present administration, Clark asserted. |
