Show OMAUGHAN SUCCUMBS AT WELLSVILLE Prominent Citizen of Neighboring Town died last night following short illness.. Patriarch Wm. H. Maughan passed away at his home in Wells-ville, Wells-ville, Thursday evening, August 29, following a short illness. Mr. Maughan was bom in Wellsville, October 17, 1860. He was the son of Wm. H. and Barbara Morgan Maughan. He grew up in the town in which he was born receiving re-ceiving his early education inj Wellsville and later attending the Brigham Ycung College in Logan. Mr. Maughan has been active in church work during his entire life, having held the following positions; a member of the Hy-rum Hy-rum Stake Presidency for 17 years, president of the Hyrum Stake YMMIA. A Sunday school teacher for 20 years, a member of the High Council, and at the time of his death he was a Patriarch Pat-riarch in the Hyrum Stake. In 1898 he fulfilled an honorable mission in California. His son and daughter, Preston and Barbara fulfilled ful-filled missions in the Northwestern Northwes-tern states. Mr. Maughan was active ac-tive in civic affairs having been elected in the State legislature for two terms, a members of the Wellsville City council for 12 years and city recorder. On Dec. 17, 1885 he married Margaret Baxter in the Logan temple. tem-ple. Nine children have been born to them, two sons Preston and Leslie Golden have preceeded him in death. His wife and the following fol-lowing children survive; Miss Barbara Bar-bara Maughan, Mrs. Ella Christen-sen, Christen-sen, LeMoine Maughan of Wellsville, Wells-ville, Wm. B. Maughan of Salt Lake; Mrs. Verna Sorenson, Men-don, Men-don, Mrs. Marguerite Colton of Vernal, and Ernest Maughan of Providence, and 18 grand children, also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Howell of Salt lake;. Peter M, .....Brigham TM. Joseph M. Maughan, and Mrs. Agnes Ag-nes Allen, Guy H., Daniel H., James N Charles N, Elmer N., prank L, Heber L., David L., Willard W., Henry W., George N. Maughan, Mrs.. Fannie Brown, Mrs. Esther Darley, Mrs. Martha Has-lam, Has-lam, Mrs. Millie Baxter, Mrs. Leona Wlalters, Miss Christina Maughan, Mrs. Elva Green all of Wellsville, Mrs. Arch Ames . of Ogden and Alex H. Maughan of Salt Lake. He was a devoted husband, loving lov-ing father, a civic and religious leader. Funeral services will be held in the Wellsville tabernacle, Sunday, September 1, at 2 p. m. |
