Show Old Age Pension Sessions Planned By Thirty States Washington High government officials said today that 30 stat:s were reported planning special legislative sessions to vote laws enabling them to benefit from the social security act. No list of the states v. as available. avail-able. Som? of the states were said to plan old age pension or unemployment un-employment insurance laws. Others expected to modify present laws tn mppfc rermirments of fchfi f tier- al act, either with respect to old age pensions, mothers' aid or child aid provisions. A study of the state laws to see which of them m-Jet specifications specifica-tions of the social security act will be the first task of the social so-cial insurance board after it is named and its staff has been selected. A list of half a dozen or more nam s has been drawn up for President Roosevelt from which he will select the three board members. The names on this list were a close secret, but some officials offi-cials said A. J. Altmeyer, second assistant secretary of labor, virtually vir-tually was certain to be a member if not chairman. Miss Margie E. Neal of Dallas, Texas, has been put forward as another probable member. A fresh study of the residence requirements of the old age pension pen-sion laws in - the 28 states that had them in effect before the passage of the national act, disclosed dis-closed today that only one Dela- ware met the residence specifications specifi-cations of the social security act. A few; stat's chjanged their laws while tjlie social security legislation was pending, however, to bring them into line and seven new states have passed such laws. A |
