Show THE SHERMAN TREE. The largest living thing on earth, and probably the oldest, is the General Gen-eral Sherman tree in Sequoia National Park, California. By precise observations observa-tions and calculations a committee of engineers determined that this tree was the biggest of the giant redwoods, while the General Grant tree is second sec-ond in size. The General Sherman tree has a volume of slightly more than 600,000 board feet of lumber; its height is 272 feet and its circumference at the ground is 88 feet. It is estimated that these largest , . , trees are 5,000 or more years old. |
