Show presentation a big success Mr. Britsch directed the program. Prizes Awarded. Thursday the prizes for the Cleopatra Cleo-patra contest were awarded. One dollar dol-lar each was awarded to McEwan j Voorhees and Doris Allred. Seventy- five cents each was awarded to Melba Metcalf and June Duggins. Fifty cents each was awarded to LaMar Larson, Margie Beck and Phyllis Her-mansen. Her-mansen. Essays are Judged. Friday the juniors' and sophomores' essays on "What Is Best In My School" were awarded places. The twelve 'best were placed in a hat and two were drawn out to be read in assembly. Helen Pierce's and Mary Kimura's numbers were drawn. The twelve essays were written by Helen Pierce, Mary Kimura, Glenna Pickett, Louise Myrup, Maizie Myrup, Marine Mar-ine Larson, Thomas Yardley, Alice Fredrickson, Mavis Munk, Velma Hansen, Beth Bardsley and Dick Anderson. An-derson. Civics posters on safety were displayed by Ira Olsen and Lucile Mo-deen. Mo-deen. Monday, the j "Ag." club and the Waconda club sponsored the program. The play, j "Cornelia Pickett, Plaintiff," was cleverly presented by the Waconda club, with the following cast playing the several parts: Cornelia Pickett, attorney, Maizie Myrup; Sam&nthy Sharp, Phyllis Jensen; Mary Talker, attorney for defendant, Iona Fjeld-sted; Fjeld-sted; Elizabeth Scribe, clerk, Bernice Bardsley; Helen Dashing, defendant, Louine Borg; witnesses, Norma Jensen, Jen-sen, June Duggins, Mavis Munk; jurors, Lucile Frischknecht, Lucile j Modeen, Twyla Buchanan, Beth Bard-1 sley, Melba Metcalf, Vera Nielson and Elaine Sorenson. One of the outstanding features was the talk given by Phelon Malouf of Richfield, who won the national public speaking contest at Kansa3 City recently. A trio vocal selection by Milton Perkins, Ralph Britsch and Payton Alexander, faculty members, and a piano solo by Boyd Nielson, were other number given to make the In Education," Gertrude Edwards; "Why Society Educates Us," Norma Jensen. Plan Dancing Party. A dance will be held in the auditorium audi-torium of the Gunnison Valley high shool Friday night. Excellent music is provided for. The proceeds will go towards the year book project. Everyone Every-one is invited to attend First Basketball Game. The first basketball game of the season will be held the night before Thanksgiving. The game is between Gunnison and Salina. A dance will be held after the game. A free Thanksgiving Thanks-giving dinner will be given bo the holders of lucky numbers. Initiation Rites Held. The Initiation of the Torchbearcrs club was held Friday night at the high school. The solemn affair was presided presid-ed over by Melba Metcalf, while Margie Mar-gie Beck, as the "Spirit of Home Economics," Eco-nomics," helped to initiate the now members. A delightful luncheon followed fol-lowed the initiation and the singing of the Torchbearers song closed the evening. |
