Show Citizens Protest Cut !n Allotment When notified by state directors of the FERA that the allotment for Sanpete San-pete county was to take an $8000 a month cut, in the face of conditions now being in more distressing circumstances cir-cumstances than heretofore, it brought forth vigorous protests from the several sev-eral communities in the county, and in order to place the matter before the state director, every mayor and every town president in the county held an indignation meeting at Moroni Monday Mon-day afternoon, at which time expressions expres-sions of disappointment were freely given. After the matter had been discussed dis-cussed from every angle, a set of resolutions res-olutions were prepared protesting the new order, and Tuesday a delegation representing every community in the county went to the state capitol to place the matter before the sta'e directors di-rectors of the FERA. The allotment sought for November was $28,000, and only recently advices were received receiv-ed by the county FERA committee that $8000 would be sliced from the funds asked for to carry the county program during the month of November. Novem-ber. It was pointed out at the Moroni meeting Monday that Sanpete county, perhaps, is in more need of relief funds than many other sections that j are getting larger amounts in proportion. propor-tion. The extreme drouth, which resulted re-sulted in devastating the crops, forcing forc-ing farmers and stockmen to release their wheat at a government price and j to sell their stock due to lack of feed, is good reason for the protest of cut- j ting the monthly allotment. Mayor AndTew Modeen and Harold Christenson, member of the Gunni-! son city council, who attended the meeting at Moroni as representatives ! from Gunnison, declared the policy of I the state FERA committee was un- timely at this time and are strongly backing the county committee in its efforts to prevent a cut of $8000 for November. In some towns and sec-tions, sec-tions, it is estimated, about 50 per I cent of the population are on relief,1 while in others it is lower, running about 15 per cent. With the advance of winter and the lull in every business busi-ness establishment throughout the . county, it is to be a task to carry those dependent on relief and if the county's allotment is to be cut, suffering suf-fering will surely follow. |
