Show Utah Beet Growers To Share In Millions A total of 10,469 sugar beet grow- ers in Utah should receive checks totaling to-taling nearly a million dollars with-j with-j in the next 30 days as their advance payments and tax refunds under the adjustment contracts which should be offered to them next week by the county extens'on agents. This is the estimate of William Peterson, director di-rector of the Utah State Agricultural college extension service, who is in charge of administering the sugar problem in this state. Contracts will be presented at a series of community educational meetings to be held in the near fu-Iture, fu-Iture, at which time full details of the program will be explained. Utah growers who sign the adjustment adjust-ment contracts will receive their bene-fit bene-fit payment through a field office which is to be established at Denver, Colo. Since practically no checking is. . to be done as was required in other j AAA contracts, it is believed that those contracts which are carefully j filled out and properly signed the first time will bring checks to their : signers within a limited time. "Growers would do well to take ra-! ra-! ceipts for all money paid to labor Jfor the 1934 crop," advises Mr. Peterson, Pe-terson, "making definite notes on those receipts about the work done and also staging on the final receipt 1 that it is trie final payment for the 1 1934 labor. These receipts will be very i convenient when each grower has to prove to the secretary of agriculture j or his agent that he has fulfilled his 'obligations to his employees which !he must do before receiving his final benefit payments." The state director also suggests that farmers- should measure the land on which they plan to grow beets next year. When they sign their contracts they should ;ilso make application for an additional allotment of acreage i which will ennble them to "round out" their field in case their allotment ap-; ap-; pears to be o nly an acre or two under the actual measurement of their field. Growers wilU speed up their first benefit check f if they will report at the sign-up mnetings at the time they are announced by the county agents. |
