Show THE LIFE-GIVING SUN. Of all ancient religious rites in which visible objects were venerated j the worship of the sun was the most logical, as has been demonstrated by modern science. All life on earth de-pends de-pends upon the beneficient rays of! the sun, without which both animals J would sicken and die. In recent years the particular light waves which have a reviving and healing effect upon living organ-! isms have been identified and means have been employed for their prac- i tical use. These are called ultra-violet rays, and are invisible. An important discovery was made la few years ago when it was found that ordinary window glass stops the! health-giving rays. Then science de-1 veloped a glass made of fused quartz, 1 through which these light waves pass freely. Now a type of artificial light which produces the rays has been perfected, whereby the same effects may be obtained whether the sun shines or not. Ultra-violet rays, either natural or artificial, are used for the prevention and cure of rickets in children and also serve to make adults to a great extent immune from colds and pneu-1 monia, as well as to correct weaknesses weak-nesses whicn make them susceptible to other diseases. Thus the life-giving properties of the sun have been made to serve man-1 kind in ways undreamed of by the early sun-worshippers. |
