Show Accident Victims Recovering Nicely Mrs. Waldo Villard and Mrs. W. D. Mills, who were both badly injured in the wreck that claimed the lives of two persons, were brought to Gunnison Gun-nison Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Duggins, parents of Mrs. Villard, Vil-lard, on advice of the accident, left early Thursday morning for Cedar City. When the auto and truck crashed, crash-ed, Mrs. Mills, riding in the front seat, was thrown forward, and her head broke the windshield and went on through. She received a vicious cut on her chin and neck, the juglar vein escaping the sharp glass by only an inch or two. .Mrs. Villard, in the rear seat, was. thrown against the front seat, resulting in breaking her nose and bruising her face and body. Since their return both victims have been making splendid progress to recovery. The accident happened Wednesday of last week at about 1 o'clock, a mile north of Cedar City. Mrs. George Mc-: Cormick, 65, of Flagstaff, Ariz., and her son by a former marriage, Lorin Savage, 43, with Mrs. Villard and Mrs. Mills, were enroute to Arizona. The latter two were to visit their husbands, hus-bands, who are working on a reser-! vation constructting a telephone line, i When the car and truck crashed, Mrs. McCormick was killed instantly.' She was in the back seat with Mrs. Villard. Lorin Savage, driving the automobile, au-tomobile, suffered injuries which resulted re-sulted in his death Thursday morning at 6 o'clock. Bert Carling, 39, driver of the truck, received a basal skull fracture and was reported in a dangerous dan-gerous condition. In the report of the accident, it is said that Savage, a deaf mute, was driving at a moderate speed. Just as he approached the oncoming truck, driven by Carling, the Savage auto got beyond control, through what is believed a tire blow-out, and the two machines hit head-on.' Carling, it was said, reported he saw the Savage car careening and drove close to the side of the road to avoid a collision, but failed in his efforts. Mr. Villard and Mr. Mills, .who were notified of the accident by long distance dis-tance telephone, reached Cedar City at 3 o'clock Friday morning. They came to Gunnison with their wives, and after it was found that neither Mrs. Villard nor Mrs.- Mills were in immediate danger, they returned to their work, leaving Sunday morning. |
