Show Beet Contracting To Start Next Week Announcement is made by the Agricultural Ag-ricultural Department of the Gunnison Gunni-son Sugar company that its force will commence the contracting of sugar su-gar beets next week, for the- l'.'SO crop. The company, like growers, is optimistic over prospects for the coming year. The cold weather during the fall and winter months, and heavy snowfall in the valleys and watersheds gives assurance of ample water and good tonnage yields, provided the crop, when planted, is given care throughout the growing season. Sufficient water and favorable growing conditions throughout tin: summer months is nature's way ,f helping towards the production of good yields. Yet to get the best results from every acre, there remains muoh for the individual to do. First, plans for the cropping system sys-tem must be made early, so that with the advent of favorable weather there will be no time lost in accomplishing the. work at hand. Early application of manure available is necessary so that as soon as the weather breaks sufficient to permit plowing, this ran be dene, and with freezing weather later on, which often happens, the, soil is in good condition for the preparation pre-paration of excellent seed beds thj, foundation for good beet yields. Early seed bed preparation permits early planting, and this, proven beyond question of a doubt, will pay big dividends. divi-dends. Approximately three tons additional ad-ditional per acre as a result of early planting will pay for the hand labor on a crop of beets, and this is not beyond reason because it has been done many times. And, the advantages do not stop here early planting means early thinning and this too will pay big at harvest time. |
