Show HYPNOTIZING BOOZERS. Another solution of the liquor problem prob-lem has been advanced by Professor Bechteriev, a Russian psychiatrist, who claims that he has cured many drunkards through the employment of hypnotism. His method, as reported in the Paris Times, is to take his patients in groups, lecture, to them on the evils of strong drink, then hypnotize them while continuing his admonitions. When they awake he gives them certain cer-tain auto-suggestive phrases to be repeated re-peated by them several times daily for a month, at the end of which time, he says, they are cured of the desire for liquor. That would seem to be a fine system sys-tem if it would really work. But in this country it might have a tendency to aggravate the unemployment situation. situ-ation. Both bootleggers and reformers reform-ers would find themselves without jobs. |
