With Gunnison's pitching staff in true form, coupled with a hitting streak, Ephraim took a bad defeat on their diamond Sunday, going down for the short end with 6 runs, while the Gunners garnered a total of 16. Waldo Villard, whose pitching ability has been invaluable for the Gunners in many a tightly-fought game, started start-ed the mound work for the locals. He weakened, however, in the 3rd and Erickson was substituted. Between the two Gunner slab artists the col- lege ' city lads were held to 6 hits, and Erickson struck out 9 men. Gunnison Gun-nison got 16 hits, one being a homer j made by Stubbs. The opposition bat-l teries- were not "on," and Gunnison exerted no effort to pound out safeties. safe-ties. By taking the game from Ephraim Sunday, Gunnison still holds firmly to top place in the standing of league games for the second half. The boysj have played in two games, winning both, and with the added strength of Villard to the pitching staff, other teams of the league will have to do some "hustling" to displace them.
