Show Centerfield Plans Pioneer Day Fete Pioneer day will be appropriately celebrated in Centerfield and a splendid splen-did program has been outlined for the entire day, according to Mel Anderson, Ander-son, general chairman in charge. Gunnison Gun-nison has not outlined any activities for that day, excepting the ball game between Gunnison a'Ad Salina, and this city has been asked to join in visiting the sister city to the south and witness the many events which "' ars to be given. Several committees have been working diligently in assisting as-sisting chairman Anderson and a varied var-ied program will keep everyone entertained. en-tertained. At 10 o'clock Friday morning, the masses will assemble at the Center-field Center-field chapel, where an appropriate program will be given in honor of the sturdy pioneers who paved the way to Utah. There will be talks, vocal and musical numbers and readings. read-ings. Following the program a recess re-cess will be taken until 2 o'clock, at which time all children are invited to attend a free dancing party at the ward meeting house. Good music will be in attendance and everyone will be accorded a fine time. At three o'clock p. m., races of all kinds and descriptions will be staged and only children will be allowed to take part in this number. , The strength of the heavyweights of Centerfield and Gunnison will be j tested in a tug-o'-war, following the children's races. Twenty of the best men of the two towns will be in the pulling contest. Ten men on each side will compete and some classy science will be seen. Much rivalry exists between the owners of fast race horses at Center-field Center-field and the valley in general, and the ability will be shown' after the tug-o'-war, when the running races will be held. Four of the best pulling teams have been matched as one of the entertaining numbers. Centerfield has teams that have captured some valuable prizes and these will be seen , in the pulling matches. The dynamometer, dyna-mometer, owned by the county, will - be on the ground to make the pulling tests exact. One of the big events of the day, and one which is already proving a drawing card, will be the balj game between the married men and single men of Centerfield. While none of the participants of this event never played in the major leagues, some classy players are lined up and the game promises to be a "whoopee" event. Centerfield, living up to the usual hospitality, announces that all events, excepting the dancing party at Cremona Cre-mona during the evening, will be free and the committee asks all to join in paying tribute to the pioneers. |
