Mrs. Clara Randolph, Salt Lake county'. - Ernest Bamberger, contender for the nomination for United States senator at' the state republican convention con-vention held at Ogden last week, staged an easy victory over his opponents, op-ponents, Clark and Farnsworth. Bamberger captured the honors on the' first ballot, receiving 525' votes, -as against 319 for J. Reuben Clark, and 36 for Philo T. Farnsworth. Farns-worth. The Bamberger forces were organized to perfection and it was indicated long before the convention met, that . the Salt Lake traction magnet would be the winner. W. H. Wattis, Ogden, won the gubernatorial nomination against William Segmiller, his nearest contender. con-tender. It took two ballots, however, how-ever, to make a decision, Wattis failing to get a. majority on the first ballot. The first ballot showed Wattis Wat-tis with 334; Segmiller, 184; Keyser, 164; Crockett,-123; Kelly, 61 5-6; Cluff, 13. On the second ballot Wattis pulled down 548 5-6; Segmiller, Segmil-ler, 198 5-6; Crockett, 12; Keyser, 109, and Kelly 11 5-6. ! State Senator John W. Peters of Brigham City, was nominated for secretary of state. He defeated John Walker, state treasurer, who was his only opponent, by a vote of 465 to 416. - ' Sanpete county won a victory, when E. A. Christensen of Mt. Pleasant, defeated John Holden, present state auditor, and Geo. Ryan of Heber City, former state treasurer. treas-urer. A strong platform, endorsing the republican party in its administration, administra-tion, was passed, and the convention conven-tion members were united for the presidential and vice-presidential nominees, Hoover and Curtis. |
