Show Annual Club Outing Draws Big Crowd - The third annual frolic of the Sanpete San-pete County 4-H clubs, comprising both boys and girls, held at Gunnison Gunni-son reservoir grove Thursday of last week,' excelled all previous events, when approximately 600 club members, mem-bers, leaders and visitors gathered for a real time. The weather man, naughty the previous day, planned an ideal day for the outing and a warm sun and clear sky added mucn to the success. Early Thursday crowds gathered on the streets in Gunnison and awaited the busses which were to carry the merrymark-er3 merrymark-er3 to the scene of activities. Only one bus had been engaged for transporting trans-porting the Gunnison members, but when the crowds grew it was necessary neces-sary to provide another bus to carry the members and the baskets of lunches. Bushels of fun were in store for every member present. Beginning at 11 o'clock, the fun continued until five thirty without a mishap to mar the pleasure of all. Miscellaneous games were played until noon, when a band concert was given, the Manti Junior band supplying this ' number. An hour and a half was devoted to feasting and the lunch baskets were depleted of their tempting viands. It required 750 bottles of soda water and 100 gallons of ice water to quench the thirst of the feasters. this was furnished free by the Gunnison, Gun-nison, Ephraim, and Mt. Pleasant Lions clubs, the Sanpete County Farm Bureau, and the Commercial club of Manti. Following the feast a snappy meeting was held, and consisted of band selections, community singing of club songs, directed by Fred Fjeldsted of Snow college, and an address by Superintendent E. T. Reid of the South Sanpete school district. Late afternoon was spent in games and play. Coach W. H. Peters ' of the Manti high school, was in charge of the games, and he was ably assisted as-sisted by Coach Harold Bradley of the Gunnison high school faculty, and the Misses Vonda Henrie and Melva Reid of Manti and Dr. J. E. Thorpe of Ephraim. Eleven communities and thirty-one clubs were represented at the frolic. Gunnison clubs took an active part in the various festivities and won the plaudits of the big crowd. |
