Show State Road Commission Will Enforce Road Rules The statue regulating the hauling of heavy loads on the state highways is to be strictly enforced, according to announcement sent out to the state road agents by the state road commission. Little regard, heretofore has been paid to the law and with a view to cutting expenses of maintaining main-taining and also to have the roads at all times passable, strict attention atten-tion is to be given that the laws are complied with. For the benefit of the public who ' use the highways, excerpts of the laws are herewith revrinted, as follows fol-lows : The total maximum load on any one wheel of any motor vehicle including in-cluding the weight of the vehicle and the load it carried, shall be three and three-fourths tons, provided, the total maximum weight of the vehicle and load shall not in any event exceed ex-ceed ten tons, except as otherwise provided herein. The total load on any wheel of any motor vehicle shall be limited to GOO pounds per inch width of tire measured between the flanges of the rim, on all highways improved with a rigid surface such as concrete, brick or bituminous pavements on a concrete base"; and, four hundred pounds per inch width of tires in actual contact with the j surface measured at the narrowest point of the tire on all highways j having earth, gravel or similar sur- J faces. I The maximum width of any motor vehicle and its load shall be limited to eight feet, excepting loads' of loose hay, straw and similar farm products. No commercial motor vehicle shall be used on the public highways while drawing more than one motor drawn vehicle, either trailer or semi-trailer. At the season of the year when the frost is leaving the ground, highway high-way officials having proper jurisdiction,, juris-diction,, may, on definitely designated i highways prohibit the operation of vehicles having a gross weight, including in-cluding the weight of vehicle and load, of more than 5,000 pounds, by posting notices along such roads, provided, however, that the entire time of such embargo shall not exceed ex-ceed forty-five days in any one year. No person or persons shall use or cause to be used upon the public highways of the State of Utah any vehicles which have tires of two inches or less in width and which carry loads in excess of 2,500 pounds or any vehicle having tires greater than two inches in width, but less than three inches in width and carrying carry-ing loads in excess of 3,500 pounds, without the consent of the county commissioners of the county in which the,' vehicle will be used. Any person or persons who shall violate the provisions of this Act shafl be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor. |
