Show Gunnison Lions Elect Officers J. W. Jones was re-elected president; presi-dent; D. H. Whittenburg, secretary; Floyd Beck, teasurer; Clinton M. Edwards, Ed-wards, lion tamer, and J. R. Howard, tail twister, for the Gunnison Lions Club at the regular luncheon meeting held last evening at the Kozi. The old board of directors was also again chosen to serve for the balance of the year, and is as follows: Ira Overfelt, F. H. Jones, E. L. Swalberg and Parley Par-ley Christiansen. At the opening of the meeting President Pres-ident Jones announced that officers would be elected to serve until June, 1925, and immediately a motion was made that the officers who had served so efficiently since the organization of the local club, again be selected. All .of the officers were unanimously reelected. re-elected. Following the election of the officers of-ficers many reports from various committees were heard, among which was the civics committee regarding the improvement of the city park. This committee recommended that the grandstand be removed from its present pres-ent location to the west side of the park and thata ball ground be made there, thus giving a better chance to park the east side. A recommendation recommenda-tion was made, also, that the club accept ac-cept the proffer of either the Utah Nursery or that of the Agricultural college to have the park platted and arranged for tree planting and the arranging of flower gardens and such other suggestions as the citizens of Gunnison would choose. Both the Nursery company and the college officials of-ficials will supply a landscape gardener. gar-dener. A letter was read from the assistant assist-ant secretary of the Red Cross at Loraine, Ohio, thanking the Gunnison Lions club for the $10 contribution, which was made at the time the great storm swept through that city, causing caus-ing death, and property loss. The club severely condemned the attitude at-titude of some citizens relative to false reports that have been circulated circu-lated that much of the supplies at the "charter night" ' banquet were purchased pur-chased out of town. The report has been circulated that the bread was purchased elsewhere than Gunnison and the committee reported that all of the bread used for the banquet was purchased from the local bakery. The attitude of those circulating the report re-port was stamped as vicious and is without foundation. Lion "Irie" Overfelt was named as a committee of one to arrange a joint picnic with the Mt. Pleasant club. The time and place will be an-! an-! nounced by Mr. Overfelt later. Almost 100 per cent of the members I present at last night's meeting an-I an-I nounced they would attend the "char- ter night" festivities at Salina tomor- row, Friday, night. A big banquet is ' to be held and following a dance will be given. The public is invited to the dance and many other than Lions, will attend from this city. |
