Show ............... .................... , . ! . e . .$. I Make War on Weeds! I . .;. y. -f ' : i- It took the American forces some time to conquer the -j. Germans, but once they did, they were conquered. Gunni- son is being; attacked in a similar manner and if steps are not ! soon taken this city will be in the arms of the enemy and to : overcome the assault will require nearly as much fighting as it did too capture the enemy "over there." i Along the sidewalks, growing in profusion in backyards, vacant lots and in fact most everywhere is to be found the enemy. Webster's dictionary defines the Gunnison enemy as weeds and the weeds growing in this city are of the most thrifty kind. Never in the history of Gunnison has such a condition existed before. In many places along the side- " walks the beautiful (?) things hang in clusters, almost cover- J 1 ing the walks. In many of the back yards and in all of the vacant lots they are to be found growing without molesta- tion. Always after a rain it is such a pleasure to plow a .$ way through the dense growth along the walks. Emerging . from the forest of weeds is just like being rescued from a . lake. And still the weeds grow and continue to grow. Is ? .;. it a good advertisement for Gunnison? -j. : j. It has been wisely suggested that a day be set aside and that it be called a "weed day." On this day all blue-blood- : ed Americans and those having the health and good welfare -: of the city at heart, start war on the weeds. If each prop- erty owner, leaser or those imbued with pride will do his or : her part, Gunnison will soon be rid of the disgraceful con- J 5 dition. Let's have a "weed day." .j. A A A A A ..
