Show Road Agreement Approved By State Hal S. Kerr, assistant state road engineer and who was just returning return-ing from a trip through Piute and Sevier counties where he was looking look-ing over the various federal and state road projects, was in the city yesterday for a brief visit. He made an inspection of the roads at Marys-vale Marys-vale and briefly made an inspection of the work being done in Sevier county. "The project agreement for the Gunnison-Axtell highway, comprising compris-ing approximately ten miles of gravel grav-el surfacing from a point north of Gunnison to the Sevier county line, with a mile of hard surface through the city of Gunnison, has been approved ap-proved by the federal and state officers," offi-cers," said Mr. Kerr. "The plans ' have been forwarded to Washington for final approval and when they are returned there is little dought but what work will be started immediately immediate-ly on the road work. Realizing the importance of the roads through the valley, and more particularly the highway from Centerfield to Axtell, it will be the policy to avoid all delays de-lays and when the returns are received re-ceived from Washington the machinery mach-inery from the state offices will be put in motion and kept going as long as weather conditions will permit. If nothing unforseen happens the work should be started by the middle of September." The cost of the Gunnison-Axtell project, with various structures, will be somewhere around $150,000. The engineering, however, has not been carried to a point where anything like a complete estimate cost can be given at this time. The county has been asked to underwrite $35,000 as its respective share of the cost of building the road. This amount has been provided for and when the road bonds 'were voted the south end of the county was allotted that amount. |
