Show State Editors To Meet At Richfield The members of the Utah State j Press association, together with their wives and sweethearts, will be the guests of Richfield at the fall meeting of the association to be held in September. At the invitation of Dr. M. Markus, and aided in the movement by the editors from Sanpete San-pete county, the convention voted to accept the hospitality of the citizen-j citizen-j ry of the Southland. The exact date j of the fall meeting has not been de-I de-I finitely set as yet, but later announcement an-nouncement will be made. Back of Dr. Markus in getting the state editors to visit this section were the Richfield Commercial club, the Richfield city council and the Commercial club of Salina. The visit of the editors at that time will prove quite an event and in the itinerary on the visit Gunnison will be included includ-ed for a brief stay. Before final adjournment year officers of-ficers were chosen for the association associa-tion as follows: President, W. P. Epperson of Kaysville; vice-president, Karl S. Carlton of Beaver; secretary-treasurer, Roy T. Porte, Salt Lake City. The meeting held at Salt Lake this week proved one of the Best and more good was accomplished than ever in the history of the organization. organiza-tion. Subjects of vital importance to the publishers of the state were taken up and broadly discussed and the sentiment for a higher and better bet-ter standard of newspapers was plainly evident among the publishers present. In addition to accomplishing much for the betterment of the papers of the state, the publishers were "dined and feted as never before and many of those who had been used to the "plainstuff," went near the "gouty" route. On the opening day, members and their wives, numbering number-ing about 75, were the guests of the Western Newspaper Union and the Porte Publishing company at a well appointed banquet at the Hotel Utah Monday evening. Following the banquet the guests were treated to a radio program. Tuesday noon the editors, and again with their wives, accepted the hospitality of Manager Fish of the Salt Lake Telegram at a luncheon at Salt Lake's Country club. Many of the lady members remained re-mained for the afternoon and enjoyed en-joyed a splendid time playing bridge whist. Following the afternoon session which closed at five o'clock, the entire en-tire party were guests of the Mountain Moun-tain States Telephone & Telegraph company. The management turned over the plant for inspection and with special instructors the visitors were privileged to inspect the entire workings of the great institution. The switch board, the largest in the world, was seen in working, the terminal room, batteries and the entire en-tire mechanical workings of the system sys-tem were minutely explained. At the end of the inspection trip the guests were taken to the cafeteria maintained exclusively for the working work-ing forces, where a splendid banquet was served. The editors were taken to the Pantages theater and enjoyed a good show as guests of the telephone tele-phone company. Editor H. W. Cherry and Mrs Cherry attended the convention and enjoyed the hospitality of the good citizens at the capitol city and if fo: any reason the News is not up to i the standard the reason can easily i be assigned. |
