Show Gunnison Plans For Big Celebration The Fourth of July one of the greatest, holidays to be celebrated by the American citizens will be appropriately ap-propriately observed in Gunnison, and if plans now being made by a special committee appointed by Gunnison Gun-nison Guard Mount, Post 101, American Amer-ican Legion, are carried out and if all will get back of the movement, Gunnison will have a celebration that will surpass anything of its kind ever held in the valley. Preliminary steps were taken at the special meeting meet-ing of the legion this week and it is . proposed to keep the movement alive and "put over" a real big time Tuesday, Tues-day, July Fourth. The committee named by the legion le-gion to start the movement comprises compris-es Bert Newman, F. II. Jones, L. G. Anderson, C. T. I off, Rex Kearns and Sidney Baxter. It is likely that this committee will be aided in arranging ar-ranging the festivities by a committee commit-tee from the city council, business men and the civic organizations. Definite plans, however, have not as yet been made and at a later meeting meet-ing final committees will be named and plans made for a rousing time. While nothing of a definite plan has as yet been suggested as a program pro-gram for the day, there is every reason rea-son to believe that plenty of amusement amuse-ment will be afforded for all. The old-fashioned races, plenty of music, contests for young and old, and above all the true spirit of Americanism should prevail. The movement started by the legion le-gion should be backed by every citizen citi-zen in the city and valley and if this is done Gunnison can and will stage a dandy celebration. Centcrfield, Fayette, Mayfield, Axtell and in fact every community in the valley will be asked to make Gunnison their place for celebration on the Fourth of July. |
