Show City Fathers To , Help Band Boys At the regular meeting of the city council last Saturday night it was voted to support the Gunnison City band financially and to this end an agreement has been reached whereby the members of the band will be compensated com-pensated according to the services i rendered. The plan finally adopted f is that each individual member of the , organization will be paid $1 for the ; Sunday concerts and $5 for the lcad-j lcad-j er. A provision, however, is made in this agreement. The members of the council will allow $1 for all members mem-bers playing and the number must not exceed twenty nor be less than fifteen. A committee from the band organisation organ-isation was present at the council meeting and asked an appropriation of $200 and in addition to this asked that the city pay the instructor $80 a month for two months, or a total of $160. The council, however, while heartily back of the band movement and the Sunday concerts for the entertainment en-tertainment of the citizens, can ill afford at this time, it is said on account ac-count of finances, to meet the request re-quest for the large appropriation asked and an agreement has been reached on the dollar a day basis. The management of the band organization, or-ganization, to get the assurance that the members will meet the requirements require-ments of the city, will ask that an agreement be signed obligating the musicians to be out regularly and keep up its part of the agreement with the city. More than likely the matter will be adjusted and final arrangements made this week. It is announced that the band organization or-ganization will have a number of new and late selections and practice work is being carried out weekly. If definite arrangements are made it is intended to open the Sunday concerts beginning with the first Sunday in July. |
