She noticed that the. two ends were bulging out. When her knife penetrated the tin there was a rush tli rough the small aperture of an ill-smelling gas. The can, with its hardly disturbed contents, was tossed into the back yard. It hail laid there in the hot sun for an hour or two, when from the spot came the sound of an explosion, as loud as the report of a pistol. H ushing to the door. the lady found the spoiled corn smeared over the ground; the now empty can had . jumped a long way on"; but one end of the can, which was blown out by the explosion, could not be found. The family considers themselves them-selves very lucky to have escaped being poisoned by the putrid contents con-tents of that imported can of corn. |
