Show Rigid laws should be enacted in Utah to protect the trees, both native na-tive ard imported, from the ruthless ruth-less hand of the axman. The preservation of vegetation of all kinds has such an important bearing bear-ing on the rain supply and air humidity of our sunny land that the matter ib one of great moment to every Utonian. The following from the Age shows how even the lowly sunflower does its part in this direction: Experiments have shown that the common sunflower exhales twelve ounces of water in twentyfour hours. Roots of all trees draw large quantities of moisture mois-ture from the Boil, which is discharged dis-charged into the air through the leaves. It ia estimated that an oak tree with 700,000 leaves would give off something like 700 tonB of water during the five months it carries its foliage. |
