Show "THE GREETERS OF SALT LAKE" The organization of the Greeters of Salt Lake is now complete. At a meeting held at the New Grand hotel in Salt Lake Thursday evening, March 16, attended by practically all of the clerks of the more prominent promi-nent local hotels, by-laws were adopted which will govern the conduct of the association, its members mem-bers and officers in the future. The by-laws are extremely comprehensive and provide for a splendid splen-did field of activity in Utah and neighboring states. The object of the association is designated as follows: To unite fraternally all hotel clerks of Salt Lake; to further and protect the interests of the members of this association and of hotel men; to give publicity to the city of Salt Lake and the state of Utah. Article II of the By-Laws, provides that any vacancy of tho unexpired term of an office will be filled by the Board of Governors until the next annual meeting and that associate and non-resident members shall not be eligible to hold office of-fice in the association. The next article outlines the duties of the president, vice-president, secretary secre-tary and the treasurer, giving the board of governors gov-ernors general charge of the management, funds and property of the association, and providing that they shall meet once a month, with three members constituting a quorum. Article IV is one of the most important of the By-Laws as it deals with the membership and it reads as follows. Section 1. Any male manager, assistant manager, man-ager, chief clerk, clerk, bookkeeper, auditor, or cashier of a hotel, residing in Salt Lake may become be-come an active member of this association, provided pro-vided he has held such position for at least one year, three months of which must have been in the city of Salt Lake. Candidates must subscribe to the By-Laws and pay the initiation fee and yearly dues as hereinafter provided. Any hotel man as listed in this action cannot be other than an active member, except for -'the period of three months after his first arrival in the city. Sec. 2 Any hotel clerk, manager, assistant 1 manager, or any hotel man provided for in Section Sec-tion one of this Article, residing in the state outside out-side of Salt Lake City, may become an active or associate member, as they may desire, on payment pay-ment of initiation fees and dues, as hereinafter provided. Honorary Members. The board of governors has the authority to elect, at their discretion, honorary hon-orary members to this assocaition, with initiation initia-tion fees or dues. Sec. 3. If by virtue of change of location or vocation of an active member for a period of six months, the member is obliged to relinquish his membership (active) in the association. He may, ui)on return of original conditions, be qualified J for re-instatement withou' t. . ment f initiation fees. A majority of the association is necessary to reinstate. Sec. 4. Any hotel proprietor, manager or employee em-ployee as per Section one; also any reputable business man or citizen, residing in or outside the county of Salt Lake, may become an associate asso-ciate member on being duly passed by the membership mem-bership committee, and payment of yearly dues hereinafter provided. Sec. 5. If an active member, through change of residence or vocation, does not come within the provisions of Section 1 of this article, he shall then relinquish his active membership in tho Association; provided, however, that such change of residence or vocation has continued for a period of six months. Such member, however, may, upon return to the original conditions, be qualified for reinstatement without payment of the initiation fee. A majority of the members is necessary to reinstate. Relative to initiation the By-Laws read as follows: fol-lows: Section 1. The initiation fee shall be ?1 for active members. Sec. 2. The annual dues for active members shall be $3. Sec. 3. The annual dues of associate members shall be $5 per year, payable in advance. Sec. 4. When the dues of any member shall remain unpaid for a space of 60 days the secretary secre-tary shall notify him that unless the indebtedness be paid within 60 days thereafter, his name will be read at the next meeting and his membership cease. In case such indebtedness shall not be paid pursuant to such notice, or the default shall not be satisfactorily accounted for to the board of governors, he shall cease to be a member, and shall forfeit all his interests in any property of the association, whether real or personal. The next three articles take up the question of resignations, suspension and expulsions, meetings and elections as follows: Section 1. All resignations must be presented to the secretary in writing arid read at the next meeting. No resignation shall be accepted from any member in arrears. Art VII. Section 1. Any member may be suspended sus-pended or expelled for the wilful infraction of any By-Laws, or for any act or conduct which may be deemed disorderly or Injurious to the interests, or hostile to the objects of tho association, by a vote of three-fourths of the members of the board of governors present at the meeting. Provided, that at least three votes are cast in favor of such suspension sus-pension or expulsion, and that notice in writing has been given the members, together with a copy of the charges preferred against him; and an opportunity afforded him for a hearing, either before the board of governors, or a committee of the same. Art. VIII. Section 1. The annual meeting of th association shall be held on tho first Saturday in March at 8 o'clock in the evening. At such meeting a president, vice-president, second vice-president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary secre-tary and memberb of the board of governors shall be elected by ballot, according to expiration of thoir terms of office. In all cases a majority of all votes cast shall be necessary to elect. |
