Show Agriculturalists Get Help With Disabilities Agriculture is the second most dangerous occupation in the United States and national sources estimate that 25 percent of all agriculturists have a disability. Millions of Americans earn their living in agricultural production and related occupations and find agricultural work productive and satisfying. For most, it's not just a livelihood, it's a way of life. Even though many agriculturalists work with a disability, they are unaware of resources re-sources that can ease their workload. work-load. AgrAbility of Utah is part of a U. S. Department of Agriculture-funded Agriculture-funded program focused on providing provi-ding assistance and resources to agriculturists with disabilities that promotes their ability to continue working. Each year many agricultural families are affected by, or living with, a disability. Some examples of disabilities that a participant in the AgrAbility of Utah project might have are: arthritis, back injury, chronic pain, visual impairment, impair-ment, spinal cord injury, amputations, amputa-tions, respiratory diseases, hearing impairment, heart conditions, traumatic trau-matic brain injuries, or other cai ses. On a statewide level, this program pro-gram provides the following services: servi-ces: agricultural work-site analysis, farmhome accessibility surveys, equipment adaptation and modification, modifica-tion, information and referral, environmental envi-ronmental modifications, locating equipment and resources, facilitating facilita-ting independent living, and peer support. |
