Show Escqlqntc Hews By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Elaine Cottam was involved in a one-car crash last week just north of the Smith ranch area, between Escalante and Henrieville. She was lucky to escape with just a dislocated dislo-cated shoulder and bruises and spent a night in the Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch and a day in Cedar City for treatment. Iola Woolsey had minor surgery on her leg. Hope she is feeling better bet-ter by now. On Friday, Kolleen Griffin Wayne was taken by life flight from St. George to Salt Lake City after suffering a heart attack They were able to clean out her arteries and let her come home on Tuesday. She should be good for a few more miles now. Kathryn Coleman had knee surgery sur-gery in December and she just got around to telling me about it. She is doing well and able to get around a lot better, Que Porter and Vergean Porter went ice fishing at Lower Bowns on Boulder Mountain last week. They spent a pretty chilly evening there until Alan Porter came to their rescue. They had left their car lights on and couldn't get home without a jump start! Sharon Dale and Shirley Marsh and Thelma Marsh were in Cedar City for the blessing of their granddaughter, grand-daughter, little Bri Anna, who is a daughter of Ryan and Joy Marsh. Justin Marsh came from Provo; Rick and Jill Woolsey from Salt Lake City; Ryan's sister, Michelle and Kory Liles, Warren and Kathleen Kath-leen Woolsey who all live in Cedar City, were there also. Congratulations to JaNae Jackson Jack-son and Michael Aston who will be getting married in the St. George LDS Temple, Mar. 3. JaNae is the daughter of Tom and Marilyn Jackson Jack-son of Escalante and Michael is a son of Michael and Susan Aston, Vancouver, Wash. The young couple cou-ple will reside in Vancouver. Tom and Marilyn Jackson stopped in Las Vegas, Nev., on their way from California to Salt (See ESCALANTE on Page 3A) ESCALANTE (From Page 2A) Lake City last week. The family of Carlyle and Barbara Shurtz were all gathered there for the christening of little Kaitlin Marie Henderson. She is a daughter of Wallace and Kaylene Henderson. Kaylene is a daughter of the Shurtz's. Hyrum Coleman is taking a turn at spending some time in the hospital. He is in the LDS Hospital Hospi-tal in Salt Lake City. He suffered head injuries in a fall and had to go in for some surgery. Valerie Davis, Aurora and Donna Rae Baker, Monroe, Mon-roe, came to get. their mother, Mary Ellen, and take her up to be with Hyrum. Sondra Boulter was able to go home from the hospital in Provo, after the car accident she and Vickie Coleman were in, but she is in Salt Lake City this week at University Hospital for surgery on her arm and shoulder. Velma Boulter came home long enough to get her car, then back to be with Sondra. Clint Jackson is walking around with a funny looking shoe on his foot the result of a broken ankle. Arnold and Deon Alvey became great-grandparents for the first time last week. Preston and Kristin Snedeger, Loa, are the parents of a baby girl, little Haley. Kristin is a daughter of Brad and Janeen Duncan, Dun-can, also of Loa. Lewis and Jean Griffin were here for a few days from Provo. They enjoyed eating and visiting with friends at the senior citizen center on Thursday last week. Jean stayed for dinner and attended the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers monthly meeting. Ardis Christen-sen Christen-sen gave the lesson on Wasatch County and Sandra Porter gave the histories of two of her grandmothers, grandmoth-ers, Thisbe Hanks, wife of Ephraim Hanks, and her maternal grandmother, grand-mother, Sarah Ann Rogerson Lister, who who came across the plains. There were five prospective members in attendance at that meeting. meet-ing. Gene and Launa Perron have also been making an appearance at the senior center. This is the first time they have been in town for awhile. Our condolences to the Leland Marshall family at the passing of their husband and father. The community Valentine Party was a huge success with around 300 people in attendance. Lots of good food and entertainment. Karen Pe-" Pe-" terson says if anyone would like to be in charge of that event next year, she has all the information. Twila Mclnelly has been visiting visit-ing her children and grandchildren in Cedar City and St. George. She says Kent Mclnelly has been having hav-ing cataracts taken off both eyes. The deer better lie low next fall! Our condolences to Keoke Nor-but, Nor-but, whose husband, Richard, passed away last week. Keoke has one son who lives in California. All her other relatives live in Japan as that is her homeland. The Marc McLemore family have been good neighbors to the Norbuts. Their son, Tyler, especially had close ties to Richard and did lots of good deeds for the Norbuts. |
