Show Garkane Donates To High Schools RICHFIELD Last week, Garkane Power Association sent donations totaling $2,750 to high schools which serve residents within the electric cooperative's territory. The donations are to be used at the high school principal's discretion to support programs in need of financial assistance. In making the donations, General Manager Carl Albrecht indicated that Garkane' s Board of Directors decided several years ago to make a single, blanket annual donation to each high school. "We're approached almost weekly with requests for donations to a variety of school-related groups and activities," said Albrecht. "We felt that the principals are in a much better position than us to prioritize the needs within their own schools. The annual donation gives them the leeway to fund those projects which will have the greatest impact." School principals have indicated that the donations will be used for such things as scholarships, research re-search supplies, yearbook expenses, field trips, and extracurricular activities acti-vities and events. Schools receiving donations were Wayne High School, Escalante Esca-lante High School, Bryce Valley High School, Valley High School, Big Water School, Piute High School, Panguitch High School, Kanab High School, Fredonia High School, and Colorado City High School. |
